MORE ABOUT PEER

We have identified the artistic aims of the organisation as follows:

  • To commission, produce and publish works which are outside the normal scope of visual arts organizations, and by doing so allow artists to extend and build on their practice.

  • To present works by long-practising or historical figures whose contribution to contemporary arts practice is significant but under-represented in the contemporary canon.

  • To offer opportunities to artists who work collaboratively and whose practice extends beyond the field of fine art.

Programming Policy
Our programming policy is guided rather than ruled by our artistic aims, in order to allow us the freedom to respond quickly to other creative opportunities that may present themselves.

Because we operate with only one part-time director and only occasionally employ administrative or technical assistance, we do not consider unsolicited proposals for projects. Similarly, we do not provide funding for projects that are not curated, commissioned or produced by Peer.

Because of staffing and financial restraints, there are periods of time while projects are being fundraised for or produced when the gallery does not have constantly rolling programme.

Funding
Our programming policy is also determined to some extent by the funds available because increasingly, each project we develop and present must be fundraised for. While the Glass-House Trust has generously supported both core and programming costs for a number of years, with additional funds raised from the usual government sources, trusts, foundations and sponsorship, it is becoming increasingly necessary to find other means of core funding if we are to continue our current level of activity.

Over the next several months, Peer is actively seeking new opportunities for support, if you would like to learn more about this please email Ingrid Swenson at mail@peeruk.org
