ABOUT PEER
PEER is an innovative, risk-taking independent arts charity whose work has been applauded locally, nationally and internationally.
From the launch of Martin Creed’s acclaimed Work No. 203, (EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRIGHT) in 1999 to John Frankland’s installation of massive granite boulders in two Hackney parks in 2008, PEER continues to strengthen its reputation for commissioning and presenting an ambitious range of high quality and often groundbreaking work both in its gallery space and in the public realm.
As we celebrate a decade of over 40 outstanding projects and events, we are entering a new phase in PEER’s growth. We now have an opportunity to more than double our gallery space and to establish a dedicated education and outreach programme.
PEER has acquired the lease on the property adjacent to our current premises at 99 Hoxton Street enabling us to integrate the two units. The effect of this expansion will be greater opportunities and provision for both artists and audiences. To realise the full potential of this expansion project, PEER must fundraise for capital and core costs, as well as towards our future programme.
What most people don’t know about PEER is that since 2007, our programme of activities has been achieved with no regular financial support from any one source. Whereas most not-for-profit galleries in London receive revenue funding of between 60 to 100% towards the basic costs of salaries, rent and utilities, PEER has successfully maintained its ambitious programme by fundraising for all essential core costs and for projects. This has included corporate funding from Deutsche Bank and Bloomberg, forming a partnership with the Shoreditch Trust to carry out its public realm work, grants from trusts and foundations, two years of support from ACE lottery funds towards gallery exhibitions and generous individual donations. We have also been proactive in the selling of artworks, benefiting both PEER and the artist. Huge thanks is due to those organisations and individuals who have ensured our success this far.
